## What is known and what is not

The date and place of birth are not in dispute: September 4, 1981, Houston, Texas. Public sources do not name the hospital.

The time has a longer history. In 2003 her mother, Tina Knowles, gave an approximate hour for an astrology reading, around 10 a.m. Astrologers worked with that estimate for almost twenty years, and it produced a Libra Ascendant. In April 2025 the Cowboy Carter Art Book came out with a reproduction of Beyoncé's Texas birth certificate, which gives 9:47 p.m. Several independent outlets reported it.

The document was published by the singer herself, so the chart carries the highest Rodden rating, AA (see the [rating scale](/en/methodology#rodden)). We cast the chart for 9:47 p.m. Central Daylight Time (UTC−5), which Houston observed in September 1981. Older versions stay in the versions table as historical: "about 10 a.m."; "sometime in the 11am hour", as the AstroTwins, who did that 2003 reading, later recalled; and 9:04 p.m. from her mother's memoir "Matriarch", likely a slip, since 9/04 is also the birth date. A gap of almost twelve hours changes the Ascendant, the MC and every house placement.

## Ascendant on the last degree of Aries

The Ascendant is at 28°59′ Aries, about a degree short of Taurus. Here the minutes matter: a slightly later time would already give Taurus rising, and the certificate settles it.

Tradition reads Aries rising as a direct, quick way of stepping into new situations. The ruler of the Ascendant, Mars, sits at 1°55′ Leo in the 4th house, conjunct the North Node at 0°48′ Leo with an orb of 1°07′. The 4th house classically covers family, home and roots, and Leo brings the stage and self-expression into that picture.

Chiron at 22°49′ Taurus falls in the 1st house even though it is in a different sign from the Ascendant.

## Five planets in Libra

The most striking feature of the chart is the crowd in one sign. Mercury (3°16′ Libra), Saturn (9°06′), Jupiter (12°29′), Venus (20°48′) and Pluto (22°40′) are all in Libra, and all five are in the 6th house. The 6th house traditionally describes daily work, routine, craft and the skills that improve through repetition. Libra adds an eye for form, proportion and collaboration.

Jupiter and Saturn are conjunct here with an orb of 3°22′. This is the great conjunction that took place in Libra in 1980-1981, so it appears in the chart of everyone born in those months. What makes it personal is the house it occupies.

Venus in Libra is in her own sign. She is conjunct Pluto (orb 1°52′) and sextile Neptune at 22°05′ Sagittarius with an orb of 1°17′. The Neptune-Pluto sextile itself (orb 0°35′) belongs to a whole generation, but here Venus is linked to both, and astrologers treat that link as the personal part. See the article on the [sextile](/en/aspects/sextile).

## Sun in Virgo in the 5th house

The Sun at 12°27′ Virgo is in the 5th house, which the classical tradition associates with creativity, performance and play. The 6th house, where the five planets gather, is Virgo's natural house, so the Sun's sign and the busiest house point the same way: precision and preparation. With no close aspects to the Sun, astrologers weigh its sign and house more.

## Moon and Uranus in Scorpio

The tightest aspect in the chart is the conjunction of the Moon (26°44′ Scorpio) and Uranus (26°28′ Scorpio), orb 0°15′. Both are in the 7th house, the house of partners and open dealings with other people. Tradition reads a Moon-Uranus contact as quick, unpredictable emotional responses and a need for freedom, and Scorpio deepens and sharpens that picture.

The pair stands in opposition to Chiron at 22°49′ Taurus: the Moon with an orb of 3°54′, Uranus with an orb of 3°39′. With Chiron in the 1st, it runs along the axis of self and partnership.
