Birth data: 1977-12-21, 10:40, Amiens, France; Rodden rating AA*.

Emmanuel Macron was born with the Sun on the last degree of Sagittarius. The birth time is known, and both axes of the chart also fall at the very end of their signs.

## What is known and what is not

The date and place are confirmed by several independent sources: December 21, 1977, Amiens, in the Somme department. The Élysée biography gives December 1977 and Amiens; the exact date is in Wikidata and in a Public Sénat report of November 21, 2019, on his visit to his home town.

The time of 10:40 a.m. comes from Astrotheme, which cites a birth certificate or birth record contributed by the collector Didier Geslain. Astro-Databank gives the same time: Sy Scholfield found it on a genealogy website that transcribes the extract of birth act no. 5148 of 1977, "à dix heures quarante minutes (10h40)". That is a transcription, not an image of the document, so we give a [Rodden rating](/en/methodology#rodden) of AA*, a birth record held by a data collector. We found no other version of the time.

We cast the chart for 10:40 Central European Time (UTC+1), which France observed in December 1977.

## Angles and a Sun on the cusp of a sign

Several of the main points of this chart sit on the last degree of their sign. The Ascendant is at 28°49′ Capricorn, the MC at 29°21′ Scorpio, the Sun at 29°25′ Sagittarius and Mercury at 29°51′ Sagittarius.

For the Sun this is a matter of the date, not the time: on December 21 it is still in Sagittarius and crosses into Capricorn in less than a day. The angles are another story. Capricorn rises quickly at northern latitudes, so an error of a few minutes would already put the Ascendant in Aquarius and move the MC from late Scorpio into Sagittarius.

Tradition links a Capricorn Ascendant with a reserved, businesslike manner that other people notice first.

## Sun, Mercury and Venus in the 11th house

The Sun and a retrograde Mercury form a conjunction with an orb of 0°26′ in the 11th house, and Venus at 21°47′ Sagittarius sits there too. Traditionally this house describes allies, groups and movements. In April 2016 Macron founded the political movement En Marche!.

## A configuration around the Sun-Jupiter axis

The Sun opposes Jupiter at 1°17′ Cancer (orb 1°52′), and Mercury opposes Jupiter as well (orb 1°25′). Saturn at 0°27′ Virgo trines the Sun (orb 1°02′) and Mercury (orb 0°35′). Chiron at 1°18′ Taurus trines Saturn with an orb of 0°51′, and Jupiter sextiles Chiron with an orb of 0°01′, the tightest aspect in the whole chart.

If Chiron is counted, the result is a kite: a grand trine of the Sun, Saturn and Chiron, with Jupiter opposite the Sun and sextile the other two points. Without Chiron, which not every astrologer counts, what remains is the Sun's trine to Saturn and its [opposition](/en/aspects/opposition) to Jupiter. One more subtlety: the Sun-Saturn trine crosses a sign boundary, since the Sun is in the last degree of fiery Sagittarius and Saturn at the start of earthy Virgo. By degree it is a [trine](/en/aspects/trine), by sign it is not.

Tradition reads a kite as a grand trine given a direction by the opposition.

## A fixed T-square: Moon, Uranus and Mars

The Moon at 14°28′ Taurus in the 3rd house opposes Uranus at 14°49′ Scorpio in the 9th, orb 0°20′. Both square a retrograde Mars at 11°03′ Leo in the 7th house: the Moon squares Mars with an orb of 3°25′, and Uranus squares Mars with an orb of 3°45′. All three are in fixed signs: a fixed T-square with Mars at the apex.

Tradition links the fixed cross with stubbornness and steady pressure, and the Moon-Uranus opposition with a need for independence and abrupt changes of mood. With Mars at the apex in the 7th, the house of partners and open rivals, the classic reading shows where the tension of the [square](/en/aspects/square) finds its outlet.
