Birth data: 1983-08-27, unknown, Osh, Kirghiz SSR (now Kyrgyzstan); Rodden rating X.

Jamala, born Susana Jamaladinova, was born on August 27, 1983, in Osh, in what was then the Kirghiz SSR. Her father is a Crimean Tatar and her mother is of Armenian descent; both families had ended up in Central Asia through deportation and exile. The birth time is unknown, so the chart is cast for noon. Its most visible features are three planets in Virgo, Venus on the star Regulus and a nearly exact sextile between Venus and Saturn.

## What is known and what is not

The date and place are given by Wikidata, Wikipedia and a Bestin.ua birthday article of August 27, 2015. Jamala herself told The Ukrainians that she was born in the Kyrgyz town of Osh and celebrated her first birthday already in Ukraine. No source names a maternity hospital, so the coordinates are those of the centre of Osh.

The hour of birth appears neither in her interviews nor in documents nor in astrology databases. Astrotheme lists the date and town with the time marked as unknown, and Astro-Databank has no page for her. The chart therefore carries [Rodden rating](/en/methodology#rodden) X: date without time. We found no other versions of the time.

Clock time in the Kirghiz SSR that day was UTC+7. Frunze time, UTC+6, was the standard, but the Soviet Union ran summer time from April 1 to September 30, so on August 27, 1983, clocks in Osh showed UTC+7.

Such a chart has no houses, Ascendant or MC. We give neither the Moon's degree nor its aspects, since the Moon covers more than 12° in a day. Its sign is known, though: the Moon stayed in Aries for the whole of August 27, 1983. How we handle charts without a time is explained in the [methodology](/en/methodology#unknown-time).

## Venus, Regulus and the sextile to Saturn

The tightest aspect in the chart joins Venus at 0°10′ Virgo and Saturn at 0°13′ Scorpio: the Venus-Saturn sextile has an orb of 0°02′. Tradition reads the [sextile](/en/aspects/sextile) as an angle that offers an opening without pressure, and a Venus-Saturn link is associated with discipline in art, exacting standards of form and respect for tradition.

Venus is retrograde that day and stands 0°34′ from the star [Regulus](/en/fixed-stars/regulus), the "heart of the Lion". Classical astrology links Regulus with success, recognition and authority, on the condition that dignity is kept. A star amplifies the planet it touches, here Venus, the planet of beauty, voice and taste.

## Virgo: Sun, Mercury and Venus

The Sun at 3°22′ Virgo, Mercury at 29°06′ Virgo and Venus form a [stellium](/en/aspects/patterns/stellium) in Virgo. The Sun and Venus are conjunct with an orb of 3°11′, and Mercury holds the last degree of the sign. Tradition associates this mutable earth sign with care, attention to detail and a craft polished over years.

Mercury in Virgo is in its own sign, where the classical scheme counts it strong: precise, analytical thinking. Mercury also squares Neptune at 26°30′ Sagittarius with an orb of 2°35′, an angle astrologers read as imagination breaking into a clear, ordered mind.

## The Sun squaring Sagittarius and Gemini

The Virgo Sun makes three close squares. The Sun squares Chiron at 2°51′ Gemini with an orb of 0°31′, squares Jupiter at 2°18′ Sagittarius with an orb of 1°03′, and squares Uranus at 5°08′ Sagittarius with an orb of 1°46′. Jupiter and Chiron are in opposition with an orb of 0°32′.

All these points lie in mutable signs. Astrologers read a [square](/en/aspects/square) like this as tension that pushes toward action: Jupiter expands, Uranus breaks the familiar, and Chiron, in the modern tradition, marks a wound one learns to work with. The Sun stands between these forces and has to find a common form for them.

## Sagittarius and the generation

Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune form a second stellium, in Sagittarius. Jupiter and Uranus are conjunct with an orb of 2°49′. Neptune in Sagittarius and Pluto at 27°25′ Libra form a sextile with an orb of 0°54′, a slow aspect shared by everyone born in those years. It becomes personal because Venus also sextiles Pluto (orb 2°45′) and trines Neptune (orb 3°40′).

Mars at 8°41′ Leo trines Uranus with an orb of 3°32′ and adds fire to the chart; tradition links this angle with bold, unexpected decisions.
