Birth data: 1986-06-03, 18:20, Manacor, Mallorca, Spain; Rodden rating AA*.

Rafael Nadal was born on June 3, 1986, at 6:20 p.m. in Manacor, Mallorca. His Sun is in Gemini and his Ascendant in Scorpio. Leaving aside the generational Neptune-Pluto sextile, the most exact aspect in the chart is Jupiter square Uranus, which links the 5th house of play and competition with the 2nd.

## What is known and what is not

Independent sources confirm the date and place: Olympedia gives June 3, 1986, Manacor, Mallorca, and the full name Rafael Nadal Parera; Wikidata gives the same date and Manacor.

The time of 6:20 p.m. comes from Astro-Databank. The collector Faustino Rodriguez quotes the birth certificate he has in hand, and the Spanish newsletter Cyklos gave the same time from the certificate in December 2010. Astrotheme gives 6:20 p.m. and credits the same Rodriguez. No copy of the certificate has been published, so we give a [Rodden rating](/en/methodology#rodden) of AA*, a birth record held by a data collector.

There is a second version. According to Astro-Databank, Nadal himself said 7:00 p.m. in a conversation with Cédric Pioline on French television, as reported by Paddy de Jabrun. We have not found the broadcast. It is a rounded time from memory, not a document, and Astro-Databank keeps 6:20 p.m. as the main entry. At 7:00 p.m. the Ascendant is still in Scorpio, around 18 degrees, about eight degrees further on. The Ascendant sign does not depend on the version, but the house cusps shift too, and planets close to a cusp could move into the next house.

No source names the clinic, so the coordinates are those of the centre of Manacor. We cast the chart for 6:20 p.m. Central European Summer Time (UTC+2); Spain was on daylight time in June 1986.

## Jupiter square Uranus

Jupiter at 20°29′ Pisces in the 5th house squares a retrograde Uranus at 20°42′ Sagittarius in the 2nd, orb 0°12′. Both signs are mutable. Tradition links a Jupiter-Uranus [square](/en/aspects/square) with a pull toward unexpected decisions and with success that comes through risk; the 5th house covers play, competition and whatever a person does in front of an audience.

Jupiter also collects easier contacts. Mars at 22°56′ Capricorn in the 3rd house sextiles Jupiter with an orb of 2°26′, and Venus at 15°40′ Cancer in the 9th trines Jupiter with an orb of 4°49′. Pisces is one of Jupiter's traditional signs, and Jupiter is considered strong there.

## The Moon with the North Node, and the Moon-Pluto axis

The Moon at 0°17′ Taurus in the 6th house forms a [conjunction](/en/aspects/conjunction) with the North Node at 29°21′ Aries, orb 0°55′. The conjunction crosses a sign boundary: exact by degree, not by sign. Tradition considers the Moon at the very start of Taurus, its sign of exaltation, steady and enduring. The 6th house describes daily work, routine and training.

The Moon also opposes a retrograde Pluto at 4°59′ Scorpio with an orb of 4°42′ and trines Neptune at 5°01′ Capricorn with an orb of 4°44′. Neptune [sextiles](/en/aspects/sextile) Pluto with an orb of 0°01′. That sextile is generational, shared by almost everyone born in those years, but here it closes a triangle with the Moon.

## Scorpio rising

The Ascendant is at 9°51′ Scorpio and the MC at 17°35′ Leo. Pluto, the modern ruler of Scorpio, sits in the 12th house a few degrees before the Ascendant. Mars, the traditional ruler, is in Capricorn, where it is considered exalted. A retrograde Saturn at 5°55′ Sagittarius stands in the 1st house. Tradition links a Scorpio Ascendant with reserve and stubbornness, and Saturn in the 1st with seriousness and a habit of sustained work.

The Sun at 12°47′ Gemini in the 8th house is conjunct Chiron at 14°57′ Gemini, orb 2°09′. Mercury at 26°19′ Gemini is in the 8th as well. The classic reading of the 8th house covers crises, other people's resources and renewal.
