Angela Merkel birth chart without a birth time
Chancellor of Germany from 2005 to 2021. The date and place are confirmed, but the time "shortly after 6 p.m." comes only from a biographer, so the chart is cast for noon.

Angela Merkel was born on July 17, 1954, in Hamburg, at the Elim hospital in the Eimsbüttel district. Her birth time is known only from a biography, so the chart is cast for noon and the reading rests on the planets and their aspects. What stands out is a stellium in Cancer and a Sun-Uranus conjunction tied to an almost exact square to Neptune.
What is known and what is not
The date and city come from the official Bundestag biography, which is based on her own statements. ZDFheute, writing on her 70th birthday, names the Eimsbüttel district and says she was born Angela Dorothea Kasner to the teacher Herlind Kasner. The Elim hospital is named by Wikidata and by the hospital's current operator, Agaplesion Diakonieklinikum Hamburg. The coordinates are those of the hospital building. A few weeks after the birth her father, the Protestant pastor Horst Kasner, moved the family to East Germany.
We found no statement of the hour from Merkel or her family. The only traceable source is the biography by Sebastian von Bassewitz and co-authors, "Angela Merkel - Das Porträt", which says on p. 14 that she was born "shortly after 6 p.m.". On that basis Astro-Databank and Astrotheme give 18:00 with rating B. An earlier claim that the time came from a birth certificate was later withdrawn by the person who made it, who said she most likely remembered the line from the biography. A second version, 17:45, comes from a 2011 astrology book by Elizabeth Teissier and Gerhard Hynek, which names no primary source.
Both versions give a Sagittarius Ascendant. Still, a biographer's words carry Rodden rating B under our rules, and we do not use such a time as the main one. The chart is cast for 12:00 Central European Time (UTC+1); West Germany did not use daylight saving time in 1954. A chart without a birth time has no houses, Ascendant or MC, and the Moon's degree is left out. Its sign is certain: the Moon stayed in Aquarius for the whole of July 17, 1954.
Four bodies in Cancer
The Sun at 24°19′ Cancer, Uranus at 23°25′ Cancer, Mercury at 9°17′ Cancer and Jupiter at 12°09′ Cancer form a stellium in Cancer. Mercury and Jupiter are conjunct with an orb of 2°52′. Classical astrology counts Jupiter as exalted in Cancer, one of its strongest signs.
Tradition links Cancer with the need for a protected space, caution and a long memory. Mercury beside Jupiter is read as thinking that takes in the whole picture and builds on gathered facts. The Aquarius Moon, known even without a time, gives this water group an opposite tone: distance, analysis and a habit of seeing people as a system.
Sun with Uranus, square Neptune
The Sun and Uranus form a conjunction with an orb of 0°54′. Neptune at 23°19′ Libra squares Uranus with an orb of 0°05′, the tightest aspect in the chart. The Sun's square to Neptune has an orb of 0°59′. The Uranus-Neptune square is generational: both planets are slow and held this angle for a long time, and what makes it personal here is the Sun sitting next to Uranus.
Astrologers associate Uranus near the Sun with independent judgement and a readiness for abrupt turns, and the square to Neptune with tension between sober calculation and circumstances that are vague and hard to pin down.
Chiron at 25°55′ Capricorn opposes the Sun with an orb of 1°36′ and opposes Uranus with an orb of 2°30′, while Neptune squares Chiron with an orb of 2°36′. If Chiron is counted, this is a cardinal T-square with Neptune at the apex. Not every astrologer builds patterns on Chiron, so the profile's pattern list leaves it out.
Retrograde Mars in Sagittarius
Mars at 26°36′ Sagittarius is retrograde and trines Pluto at 23°42′ Leo with an orb of 2°54′. Mars sextiles Neptune with an orb of 3°17′. The classical reading describes a retrograde Mars as force turned inward: action after deliberation rather than on first impulse. Tradition links the fire trine to Pluto with stamina under long pressure.
Venus at 4°42′ Virgo sextiles Saturn at 2°44′ Scorpio with an orb of 1°57′. Astrologers read this aspect as reserve in relationships and valuing reliability over show.
