Lula da Silva birth chart: disputed date of birth
President of Brazil in 2003-2010 and from 2023. Lula and his family celebrate October 27, while his birth registration gives October 5 or 6, so even the date is in doubt and the chart is rated XX.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was born in Vargem Comprida, then a district of Garanhuns and now part of the Caetés municipality in the state of Pernambuco. He went on to lead a metalworkers' union and be elected President of Brazil in 2002, 2006 and 2022. He celebrates his birthday on October 27, 1945, but even that date is in question.
What is known and what is not
There are two birth dates, and they give different Sun signs:
- October 27, 1945: the date Lula himself gives. According to the PT, his mother always congratulated him on the 27th. Wikidata, CNN and Astro-Databank use it as the main date;
- October 6, 1945: the date on the birth certificate. The family says the children were registered together in Santos after the move there in 1952. The Instituto Lula, in a post of October 27, 2021, calls the date a clerk's mistake; his brother Frei Chico says their mother, intimidated by the clerk, got the dates mixed up;
- October 5, 1945, 22:00: a registry entry that the collector Sy Scholfield supplied to Astro-Databank. Astro-Databank says it was registered in 1972, not in the early 1950s as the family recalls. No copy has been published.
The Sun enters Scorpio around October 23-24. On October 27 it stands at 3°50′ Scorpio, while on October 5-6 it is still in Libra. A chart for the document date therefore has a different Sun sign, and everything said below about a Scorpio Sun applies only to the date Lula celebrates.
There is also a version of the time. In a podcast published on October 26, 2022, Lula said he would turn 77 the next day "from 8 o'clock", when the midwife delivered him. Astro-Databank rates this 08:00 on October 27 as A. As the date itself is in doubt, we build no houses on it. Astro-Databank also lists two rectified times, which we do not use: Marcello Borges's 07:03 on October 27 for Caetés and Starkman's 22:12 on October 5.
The chart carries Rodden rating XX. Vargem Comprida has no precise published coordinates, so the centre of Caetés is used. Astro-Databank places the birth in Ribeirão, about 140 km from Caetés; without a time this changes nothing. The chart is cast for 12:00 at UTC-3; Brazil had no daylight saving time in October 1945. It has no houses, Ascendant or MC, and we give no Moon degree. The Moon's sign is not known either: that day the Moon moved from Cancer into Leo. How we handle charts without a time is explained in the methodology.
Sun and Mercury in Scorpio
On October 27 the Sun is at 3°50′ Scorpio and Mercury at 19°25′ Scorpio. Tradition links Scorpio with depth and endurance. The Sun trines the North Node at 1°50′ Cancer with an orb of 1°59′, a water trine read as will and life path pulling the same way.
Tension comes from the Sun's sesquiquadrate to Uranus at 16°57′ Gemini, orb 1°52′. Tradition gives this minor angle sudden turns (see the sesquiquadrate).
Mars and Saturn in Cancer
The tightest aspect in the chart, the conjunction of Mars at 25°02′ Cancer and Saturn at 24°48′ Cancer, has an orb of 0°13′. The classical scheme counts Mars in Cancer as in its fall: action here works indirectly, through defending one's own. Tradition reads such a conjunction as strength that builds slowly and lasts.
Both planets are tied to Neptune at 7°11′ Libra by quintiles. The quintile of Mars to Neptune has an orb of 0°08′. The quintile of Saturn to Neptune has an orb of 0°22′. Astrologers associate the quintile with talent and a personal style, here with turning an idea into action.
A stellium in Libra
Venus at 10°28′ Libra, Jupiter at 13°28′ Libra and Neptune form a stellium in Libra. Jupiter is conjunct Chiron at 12°56′ Libra with an orb of 0°31′, Venus is conjunct Jupiter with an orb of 2°59′, and Venus is conjunct Neptune with an orb of 3°17′.
Tradition connects Libra with agreements, the balance of two sides and the need for partners. Jupiter enlarges that theme and Neptune gives it an ideal. Pluto at 11°44′ Leo supports the cluster: Venus sextiles Pluto with an orb of 1°16′, and Jupiter sextiles Pluto with an orb of 1°43′.
