Lionel Messi birth chart with time of birth
Argentine footballer. The 8:30 p.m. birth time is in the Santa Fe civil registry entry, and a scan of it is published, so the chart is rated AA; other hours circulate in the press and biographies.

Messi was born in the evening, which is why three personal planets gather in one house: the Sun, Moon and Venus all sit in the 5th. Below: where the birth time comes from and what stands out in the chart.
What is known and what is not
The date and place are not in dispute: June 24, 1987, at the Hospital Italiano Garibaldi in Rosario, Santa Fe province, Argentina. Argentine and Spanish newspapers name this hospital.
The time of 8:30 p.m. is written in the civil registry of Santa Fe province: volume IV, act 1096 of 1987, registered in Rosario on July 2, 1987, "a las 20,30 horas". The astrologer Juan Cruz Sirius obtained a scan of the act in August 2021, and Astro-Databank published it; we have seen it. A time from a document with a public copy earns the highest Rodden rating, AA (the scale is explained in our methodology).
We cast the chart for 8:30 p.m. Argentina Time (UTC−3), which Santa Fe kept in June 1987.
Before the scan surfaced, other times circulated. The obstetrician Norberto Odetto told La Nación in 2012 that Lionel was born a few minutes before six in the morning, and the biographer Luca Caioli writes the same. The morning version would put the Ascendant in Gemini. His mother, as reported on Astro-Databank, gave 4:20 p.m. in a video interview. The Rosario astrologer Hugo Bonito gave 8:20 p.m. as a time from the family (the Ecuadorian paper Expreso repeats it without a source); it keeps the Aquarius Ascendant. We keep 8:30 p.m. as the main time because a document stands behind it. One point is sensitive: the Sun sits less than 2° before the cusp of the 6th house, so the Sun's house depends on the minutes.
Three planets in the 5th house
The Sun at 2°54′ Cancer, the Moon at 19°02′ Gemini and Venus at 16°45′ Gemini are all in the 5th house, and Chiron falls there too. The 5th traditionally covers play, creativity, children and whatever a person does for pleasure and in front of an audience. Astrologers read a cluster of personal planets here as a life in which play and self-expression stand at the centre.
Tradition ties the Sun in Cancer to attachment to home, family and the place a person comes from. The Moon and Venus in Gemini add lightness, mobility and quick reactions.
Venus in exact opposition to Saturn
The most exact aspect in the chart joins Venus at 16°45′ Gemini and Saturn at 16°43′ Sagittarius, retrograde: an opposition with an orb of 0°01′. The Moon also opposes Saturn (orb 2°18′) and is conjunct Venus (orb 2°17′), so three bodies are pulled into one axis between the 5th and 11th houses.
Tradition reads Venus opposite Saturn as a serious, restrained attitude to pleasure: what is play for others turns into duty and long work. The 11th house, where Saturn stands, covers teams, groups and shared goals. See the article on the opposition.
Jupiter trine Uranus
Jupiter at 25°02′ Aries in the 3rd house forms a trine with Uranus at 24°23′ Sagittarius in the 11th, orb 0°39′. Tradition links a Jupiter-Uranus trine with unexpected moves that come off and with luck that arrives through an unconventional choice.
The trine has a tense side as well. Mars at 22°30′ Cancer in the 6th house squares Jupiter with an orb of 2°32′. Mars in Cancer is considered weakened, acting by indirect routes rather than head-on. The 6th house describes daily work, routine and the body as a working tool.
Aquarius rising
The Ascendant is at 5°00′ Aquarius. Its modern ruler, Uranus, is in the 11th house, and so is its traditional ruler, Saturn. With both rulers of the Ascendant in the house of the team, astrologers read the placement as a path on which a person's place is defined by the group they belong to. The MC is at 26°20′ Libra, and Pluto at 7°17′ Scorpio stands in the 10th house.
