What is known and what is not

The date and place of birth are not in dispute: June 14, 1946, Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York. In March 2011 Trump himself gave the press the hospital record of his birth, and it states the time as 10:54 a.m. He later released the city certification as well, with the seal of the New York City health department.

A document with the birth time earns the highest Rodden rating, AA. We cast the chart for 10:54 Eastern Daylight Time (UTC−4), which New York observed in June 1946.

Older astrology databases carry other birth times for Trump. They date from before 2011, when no document was public, and should not be used as the basis today.

The main features

Trump's chart turns up in textbooks because several of its features are visible even to a beginner.

Ascendant on the last degree of Leo. The Ascendant is at 29°57′ Leo, three minutes of arc from Virgo. That is why the birth time matters here: had Trump been born even a minute later, the Ascendant would already be in Virgo, and the picture of the character would change noticeably. The 10:54 document settles the question.

Mars and Pluto near the Ascendant. Mars at 26°46′ Leo sits in the 12th house, 3° before the Ascendant, and Pluto at 10°02′ Leo is in the 12th as well. Astrologers link Mars this close to the Ascendant with a direct, forceful manner that other people notice first.

Sun in Gemini in the 10th house. The Sun at 22°55′ Gemini is in the house of career and public role, next to Uranus (17°53′) and the North Node (20°48′). In the classic reading the Sun in the 10th describes a person whose public standing and own name sit at the centre of life.

An eclipse on the day of birth

Trump was born on the day of a total lunar eclipse: on June 14, 1946 the Moon passed through the Earth's shadow. In the chart this shows as a close opposition of the Sun and Moon (orb 1°43′), with the Moon at 21°12′ Sagittarius almost exactly on the South Node (orb 0°24′).

Astrologers read a full Moon birth as tension between two poles: the Sun in Gemini in the 10th pulls toward publicity and words, the Moon in Sagittarius in the 4th toward personal convictions, family and roots. The Moon's opposition to Uranus (orb 3°18′) adds sharpness and a dislike of restrictions to the pair.

Venus and Saturn in Cancer

In the 11th house, at 25°44′ and 23°48′ Cancer, Venus and Saturn form a conjunction with an orb of 1°55′. The 11th house traditionally covers allies, groups and large projects. Venus with Saturn reads as a serious, demanding attitude to values and relationships, and Cancer ties them to family and property. Trump's father, Fred Trump, was a housing developer in Queens and Brooklyn, and Trump began his career in the family company.

Jupiter trine Uranus

The tightest aspect between planets is the trine of Jupiter (17°27′ Libra, retrograde) to Uranus (17°53′ Gemini), orb 0°26′. Jupiter is in the 2nd house, the house of money and possessions. Tradition links a Jupiter-Uranus trine with unconventional moves that pay off and a readiness to take risks.

Mercury square Neptune
