Oleksandr Usyk was born on January 17, 1987, in Simferopol. His birth time has never been published, so the chart is cast for noon, and what can be read in it is the planets and their aspects rather than the houses. The features that stand out are a strong Capricorn and a tense mutable T-square.

What is known and what is not

All sources agree on the date and place: January 17, 1987, Simferopol. They are given by Wikidata, the LB.ua profile and Zaxid.net, which also says that Usyk's father came from the Sumy region and his mother from the Chernihiv region. The maternity hospital is not known, so the coordinates are those of the city centre.

The hour of birth appears neither in interviews nor in astrology databases. Astrotheme lists the date and city with the time marked as unknown and no source for a time. The chart therefore carries Rodden rating X: time unknown. We found no other versions of the time.

The chart is cast for 12:00 Moscow Time (UTC+3), which Crimea kept in January 1987. It has no houses, Ascendant or MC. The Moon covers about 12° in a day, so its degree and aspects are left out. Its sign is known, though: the Moon stayed in Leo for the whole of January 17, 1987.

Sun and Mercury in Capricorn

The Sun at 26°42′ Capricorn is conjunct Mercury at 29°42′ Capricorn, orb 3°00′. Mercury is on the last degree of the sign and moving fast, so later that day it may already have crossed into Aquarius. The Sun's sign is not in question. Neptune is in the same sign, at 6°17′ Capricorn.

Tradition associates Capricorn with patience, long preparation and results that come after years of work. The Sun with Mercury in this sign is read as practical, collected thinking aimed at a concrete goal.

Mars in Aries square Neptune

The tightest aspect in the chart joins Mars at 6°11′ Aries and Neptune at 6°17′ Capricorn: a square with an orb of 0°06′. Mars in Aries is in its own sign, and classical astrology counts it strong there: direct action, initiative, a fast start. In the traditional reading the square to Neptune makes that force less straightforward, adding intuition, the ability to hide an intention and a tendency to act on feel. The article on the square aspect covers the tension of this angle in detail.

Mars also trines Venus at 9°51′ Sagittarius (orb 3°39′), with both planets in fire signs.

A mutable T-square

Saturn at 17°07′ Sagittarius and Chiron at 16°34′ Gemini are in opposition with an orb of 0°32′. Jupiter at 20°21′ Pisces squares Saturn (orb 3°14′) and squares Chiron (orb 3°46′). Together this is a T-square in the mutable signs with Jupiter at the apex, and Jupiter in Pisces sits in a sign it rules in the classical scheme.

Astrologers link the mutable modality with flexibility and the ability to adjust on the move. The tension of the Saturn-Chiron opposition, a theme of limits and vulnerability, finds its outlet through Jupiter, the planet of faith and expansion. Jupiter's square to Uranus (orb 4°09′) adds sudden turns to that apex. The article on the opposition explains how this aspect works.

Sagittarius

Three planets sit in Sagittarius: Venus, Saturn and Uranus at 24°31′ Sagittarius. Saturn and Uranus are far apart here and do not form a conjunction within AstroWay's orbs, but together with Venus they make Sagittarius the second centre of the chart after Capricorn. Tradition connects this mutable fire sign with travel, competition and convictions.
