Taylor Swift birth chart: date known, time disputed
American singer-songwriter. The date and place are known but the time is not: two widespread versions give different Ascendants, so the rating is DD and the chart is cast for noon.

What is known and what is not
The date and place of birth are confirmed by several sources: December 13, 1989, Reading Hospital in West Reading, Pennsylvania. Some biographies simply say Reading, since West Reading borders the city.
Swift has never stated her birth time publicly, and no document with the time is available. Two versions circulate in astrology databases and online:
- 8:36 a.m. It appears in Sarah Oliver's fan book "Inside Taylor Nation" (2016), page 8, which Astrotheme cites, and in a post on a Facebook fan page. That post places her birth at Brampton Civic Hospital in Wyomissing, but that hospital is in Ontario, Canada, and her birth notice in the Reading Eagle names Reading Hospital. It gives a Capricorn Ascendant.
- 5:17 a.m. According to Astro-Databank, it comes from a fan's list of facts about themselves on a fan site, later misattributed to Swift. It gives a Scorpio Ascendant.
Neither is backed by a document or by Swift herself, and they disagree on the rising sign. The birth notice gives no time. That makes the Rodden rating DD, conflicting data (more on the rating scale). We do not pick between them. The chart is cast for 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time (UTC−5) and has no houses, Ascendant or MC.
The planets move little in a day, so their signs and aspects hold for any birth time. Not the Moon: on December 13, 1989 it moved from Gemini into Cancer, and without a time there is no way to tell which of the two signs it occupied at birth. This reading therefore leaves the Moon out.
Four planets in Capricorn
Uranus (4°39′ Capricorn), Mercury (9°02′ Capricorn), Neptune (11°20′ Capricorn) and Saturn (13°28′ Capricorn) are packed into one sign within nine degrees. Saturn is in its own sign in Capricorn, and tradition considers it strong there: structure, patience, work over the long haul.
Saturn and Neptune form a conjunction here with an orb of 2°08′. That conjunction fell in 1989, right next to Uranus, so everyone born in those months shares it. What makes the group personal is Mercury, which sits inside it. Mercury is conjunct Neptune with an orb of 2°17′ and forms wider conjunctions with Saturn and Uranus.
Mercury classically governs language, writing and the way a person thinks. In Capricorn it is read as words that lean on form and craft, and the link to Neptune adds imagery and imagination. For a songwriter, astrologers usually start the reading here.
Jupiter facing Capricorn
Jupiter at 7°39′ Cancer, retrograde, stands opposite the whole Capricorn group. The closest of these oppositions is to Mercury, orb 1°23′. Jupiter also opposes Uranus (orb 2°59′) and Neptune (orb 3°41′).
Cancer and Capricorn form an axis of the cardinal modality, and Jupiter is exalted in Cancer. Tradition reads an opposition as two poles a person keeps balancing: here Jupiter's expansiveness and generosity in the sign of home and family against Capricorn's restraint and discipline.
Chiron at 15°02′ Cancer lies on the same axis, opposite Saturn with an orb of 1°33′. See the article on the opposition.
Sun in Sagittarius, Mars in Scorpio
The Sun at 21°40′ Sagittarius is far from either edge of the sign, so its sign does not depend on the time. Sagittarius is traditionally linked with a wide view, storytelling and the search for meaning. The Sun is sextile the North Node at 17°56′ Aquarius, orb 3°43′.
Mars at 26°52′ Scorpio and Pluto at 16°30′ Scorpio sit in a sign each of them rules: Mars in the classical scheme, Pluto in the modern one. Tradition reads such a Mars as concentrated, stubborn will that does not scatter itself. Pluto squares the North Node (orb 1°26′), one of the tightest aspects in the chart.
Venus at 1°59′ Aquarius has only just left Capricorn. Of Mercury, Venus and Mars, she is the only one in an air sign.
