The birth time of Charles III has been public since the evening he was born: the palace announced it right after the birth. The chart stands out for its Leo Ascendant, four bodies in the 4th house, the Moon in the 10th and an opposition of Jupiter and Uranus exact to two minutes of arc.

What is known and what is not

Charles was born on November 14, 1948, at Buckingham Palace in London. That evening the palace issued a bulletin announcing the birth, and the BBC read it on air. The bulletin gives the time as 9:14 p.m. The official website of the Royal Family still states the same time.

The Rodden rating here is A, not AA. AA is reserved for a birth registration record, and the source in this case is different: an official statement from the court, made public on the day of birth. In reliability it is closer to a document than an ordinary family account, but formally it remains a statement. The sources give no other birth time.

We cast the chart for 9:14 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (UTC+0): British Summer Time ended in late October 1948.

Leo rising

The Ascendant is at 5°24′ Leo, with Pluto at 16°33′ Leo in the 1st house. Tradition links a Leo Ascendant with a need to be seen and to live up to one's role, and Pluto in the 1st with an intense inner force that others feel before they see it. The Sun, ruler of Leo, is at 22°25′ Scorpio in the 4th house, the lowest part of the chart.

Four bodies in the 4th house

The 4th house describes family, lineage, home and the land a person stands on. Here it holds the Sun at 22°25′ Scorpio, Mercury at 6°57′ Scorpio, Neptune at 14°07′ Libra and Venus at 16°23′ Libra. Neptune and Venus sit very close to the IC, the lowest point of the sky, where the 4th house begins.

Venus and Neptune in Libra form a conjunction with an orb of 2°15′. Tradition links this pair with aesthetic sense, imagination and a pull toward the arts. Venus also makes a nearly exact sextile to Pluto in Leo, orb 0°10′.

The Moon in the 10th house

The Moon at 0°25′ Taurus is in the 10th house, the house of public role, status and how the world sees a person. It had only just moved from Aries into Taurus: less than an hour before the birth the Moon was still in Aries, which is why the exact time matters here. Taurus is traditionally the sign of the Moon's exaltation. The North Node is nearby at 4°57′ Taurus.

The classic reading links the Moon in the 10th with a mother who holds a visible public role and with a life lived in view of others. Charles's mother, Elizabeth II, was heir to the throne when he was born and became Queen in 1952.

Jupiter opposite Uranus

Jupiter at 29°53′ Sagittarius and Uranus at 29°55′ Gemini are in opposition with an orb of 0°02′. Both planets are on the last degree of their signs. Jupiter is in the 5th house, in its own sign, and Uranus in the 11th. Tradition reads a Jupiter-Uranus opposition as tension between established order and the urge for change, between belief and new ideas.

The Moon links this opposition. It is trine Jupiter (orb 0°32′) and sextile Uranus (orb 0°30′). When a third planet leans this closely on both ends of an opposition, tradition reads the tension between them as manageable. The article on the opposition explains how the 180° angle itself works.
