  • 00:18: The time she gave herself in a comment under her own Instagram post in August 2023, "00:18 on the 22nd of august", saying she had just found out she was a Gemini rising. Astro-Databank and Astrotheme use it as the main time; we could not open the comment itself. Gemini ascendant, about 22°. (Astro-Databank: Lipa, Dua)
  • 11:45: The time her astrologer Rosie Cutter gave in a chat that a reader sent to Astro-Databank as a screenshot in September 2022. It gives a Libra ascendant, the rising sign she named herself in interviews with V Magazine (2020) and the Financial Times (2022). Libra ascendant, about 29°, on the edge of Scorpio. (Astro-Databank: Lipa, Dua)
  • 23:45: The time Astro-Databank worked out from a table of chart degrees she posted on Twitter in 2018 (ascendant 14° Gemini, Moon 22° Cancer). The post has been deleted, and we found no archive copy. Gemini ascendant, about 15°. (Astro-Databank: Lipa, Dua)

Dua Lipa was born on August 22, 1995, in London, to Kosovan-Albanian parents who had left Kosovo in about 1992. She has talked about her own chart in public more than once, each time differently, so the profile carries no birth time. The most striking feature that does not depend on the hour: the Sun and Venus together in the last degrees of Leo, next to the star Regulus.

What is known and what is not

The date and city are confirmed by the Recording Academy's page on GRAMMY.com, by Wikidata and by BBC News. Astro-Databank adds that the birth was registered in the Westminster district. The hospital is not known, so the coordinates are those of central Westminster.

The time comes from her own statements, and they contradict each other:

  • 11:45 p.m.: in 2018 she posted on Twitter a table of her chart degrees, with the Ascendant at 14° Gemini and the Moon at 22° Cancer. Astro-Databank worked this time out from it. The post has been deleted, and we found no archive copy;
  • 11:45 a.m.: in 2020 and 2022, in interviews with V Magazine and the Financial Times, she said she was Libra rising with a Cancer Moon. In September 2022 a reader sent Astro-Databank a screenshot in which her astrologer Rosie Cutter gives 11:45 a.m. That time puts the Ascendant at about 29° Libra, on the edge of Scorpio;
  • 12:18 a.m.: in August 2023 she wrote on Instagram that she had just found out she was Gemini rising, and in a comment gave "00:18 on the 22nd of august". We could not open the comment itself.

Astro-Databank and Astrotheme take 12:18 a.m. as the main time and rate it A. We have seen the quote only as described by others, and the Ascendant in her own descriptions keeps changing: her 2018 table gives Gemini, in 2020 and 2022 she said Libra herself, and in 2023 Gemini again. Three versions with different Ascendants and no way to prefer one mean a Rodden rating of DD.

The chart is cast for 12:00 noon British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1), which London kept in August 1995. It has no houses, no Ascendant and no MC (why). We do not give the Moon's degree, but its sign is known: the Moon stayed in Cancer all through August 22. All her own descriptions agree on it.

Sun and Venus at the end of Leo

The Sun at 28°53′ Leo and Venus at 29°17′ Leo form a conjunction with an orb of 0°23′. Both sit in the last two degrees of the sign, and the Sun in Leo is in its own sign. Tradition links Leo with the need to be seen and with creative work as a way of showing oneself, and Venus beside the Sun adds taste, charm and art to that theme.

The pair sits on the fixed star Regulus, the "heart of the Lion": the Sun is 0°52′ from it, Venus 0°28′. Classical astrology counted Regulus among the four royal stars and linked it with recognition and high standing.

Both planets sextile the North Node at 28°29′ Libra: the Sun with an orb of 0°24′, Venus with an orb of 0°48′.

The square to Pluto

The same pair squares Pluto at 27°52′ Scorpio. The Sun's square to Pluto has an orb of 1°01′, and Venus's square to Pluto an orb of 1°25′. Leo and Scorpio belong to the fixed cross, and astrologers read this angle as tension between open self-expression and a need for control and depth (more in the article on the square aspect).

Mercury in Virgo between Saturn and Neptune

Mercury at 20°35′ Virgo is in its own sign. It opposes Saturn at 23°02′ Pisces with an orb of 2°27′ and trines Neptune at 23°15′ Capricorn with an orb of 2°40′. Saturn and Neptune are sextile each other with an orb of 0°13′, so the three planets are tied into one figure. Tradition reads the opposition as a dialogue between opposite signs: Virgo with its precision, Pisces with its blurred boundaries.

The most exact aspect in the whole chart is a minor one: Venus biquintile Neptune with an orb of 0°01′. Modern astrologers link the quintile family with style and creative skill.
