Elon Musk birth chart without a birth time
Entrepreneur, founder of SpaceX and head of Tesla. The date and place of birth are solid, but the 7:30 a.m. time is known only from Walter Isaacson's biography, so the chart is cast for noon.

Elon Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. The birth time circulates in more than one version, and none of them rests on a direct statement from his family, so the chart is cast for noon and what can be read in it is the planets and their aspects rather than the houses. The features that stand out are an exact Saturn-Neptune opposition and Mercury in Cancer next to Sirius.
What is known and what is not
Two independent sources agree on the date and city: Wikidata and t-online, which in 2021 reported his mother Maye Musk's post for his 50th birthday. No hospital is named in the sources, so the coordinates are those of central Pretoria.
There are two versions of the time:
- 7:30 a.m.: Walter Isaacson gives it in his biography "Elon Musk" (2023, p. 16), and The Irish Times quotes the line. It is the biographer's narration, not words of Musk or his mother: the passage does not name who gave him the hour. Astro-Databank and Astrotheme also rate this time B. It puts the Ascendant in Cancer;
- 6:30 a.m.: found on websites with no source at all. Astro-Databank suggests it is a rounded sunrise time; sunrise that day was at 6:58. It puts the Ascendant in late Gemini.
A biography with no named witness carries Rodden rating B. Under our methodology a B time never becomes the main time, so we build no houses or Ascendant on it. The two versions also give different Ascendant signs. We found no direct statement of the hour by Maye Musk, either in her memoir or in her birthday posts.
The chart is cast for 12:00 South African Standard Time (UTC+2, no daylight saving). It has no houses, Ascendant or MC, and we leave out the Moon's degree and aspects, since the Moon covers about 12° in a day. Its sign is known: the Moon stayed in Virgo for the whole of June 28, 1971. How we handle such charts is explained under unknown birth time.
Saturn opposite Neptune
The tightest major aspect in the chart joins Saturn at 1°08′ Gemini and Neptune at 0°48′ Sagittarius: an opposition with an orb of 0°20′. Jupiter at 27°38′ Scorpio stands close by, and Jupiter is conjunct Neptune across the sign border with an orb of 3°10′. Jupiter in turn opposes Saturn with an orb of 3°30′, so three slow planets line up on one axis.
Tradition ties Saturn to form, limits and long work, and Neptune to ideals, imagination and dissolving boundaries. Astrologers read their opposition as a steady pull between what can be built and what can only be imagined. Jupiter beside Neptune, in the classic reading, enlarges the scale of the dream. This is a slow configuration that Musk shares with everyone born in the same weeks.
Pluto sextile Jupiter and trine Saturn
Pluto at 27°05′ Virgo receives soft aspects from all three planets on that axis. Jupiter is in sextile to Pluto with an orb of 0°32′. Neptune also sextiles Pluto, orb 3°42′, and Saturn trines Pluto, orb 4°02′.
Modern astrology gives Pluto power, crisis and renewal. When it is linked smoothly to Jupiter, tradition sees a tendency to think in terms of large projects and resources, and the trine to Saturn adds endurance for long efforts.
Sun and Mercury in Cancer
The Sun is at 6°04′ Cancer and Mercury at 14°27′ Cancer. Mercury forms a square to Chiron at 13°42′ Aries with an orb of 0°45′. The Sun squares Uranus at 9°29′ Libra with an orb of 3°24′, and Mercury squares Uranus too, with an orb of 4°58′. Cancer, Aries and Libra belong to the cardinal cross, which tradition links with initiative and the urge to start things.
Mercury also sits 0°46′ from Sirius, the brightest star in the sky. Classical astrology treats a star conjunct a planet as an amplifier, and Sirius is associated with honour, fame and a fire that can burn. Here that theme falls on Mercury, the planet of thought and speech.
Among the minor aspects the tightest is the sesquiquadrate of the Sun to Mars with an orb of 0°08′. Mars at 20°56′ Aquarius trines Venus at 19°37′ Gemini, orb 1°18′, with both planets in air signs.
