What is known and what is not
The date and place of birth are not in dispute: December 18, 2001, Los Angeles, California. Sources do not name the hospital.
For a long time a different time circulated, 11:30 a.m. Eilish posted it herself on X: "11:30 am dec 18th 2001". The post was later deleted; Astro-Databank preserves its text. That version gave a Pisces Ascendant. According to Astrotheme, a birth record with the time 12:17 p.m. surfaced on February 22, 2024, and the databases switched to it.
The certificate came from the data collector Roman Craft: Astro-Databank says he holds the certificate, number 1200119135214. No copy is publicly available, so we give it a Rodden rating of AA*, a birth record held by a data collector. We use 12:17 p.m. as the main time because a birth record outweighs a post written from memory. The 11:30 version is listed in the versions table. The chart is cast for 12:17 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (UTC−8).
The 47-minute difference is not a detail: it moves the Ascendant from Pisces to Aries.
Aries rising and Mercury at the MC
The Ascendant is at 5°24′ Aries and the top of the chart at 3°13′ Capricorn. Mercury at 4°46′ Capricorn is in the 10th house, right next to the MC. Mercury classically governs language, words and the voice, and tradition treats a planet near the MC as one of the most visible in the chart: it describes what a person is publicly known for.
The ruler of the Ascendant, Mars, is at 7°15′ Pisces in the 12th house, the house of what is hidden and what happens behind the scenes. Mars squares Saturn at 10°15′ Gemini (orb 3°00′), which is retrograde and sits in the 2nd house. Astrologers usually read a Mars-Saturn square as friction between impulse and limitation that has to be worked through with effort.
The Sun on the nodal axis
The Sun at 26°59′ Sagittarius is opposite the North Node at 27°08′ Gemini with an orb of 0°09′, which puts it almost exactly on the South Node. The Sun comes this close to the nodal axis only during eclipse season. The axis runs through the 9th and 3rd houses: the 9th traditionally describes worldview, study and long journeys, the 3rd the immediate circle, siblings and everyday speech.
Next to the Sun, just over the sign boundary, is Chiron at 0°44′ Capricorn. The Sun is conjunct it with an orb of 3°45′ even though the two are in different signs.
A Sagittarius stellium in the 9th house
The 9th house holds Pluto (15°33′ Sagittarius), Venus (20°36′ Sagittarius) and the Sun, along with Chiron. Three of them are in Sagittarius, so the stellium works by both house and sign. Sagittarius and the 9th house speak the same language: the search for meaning, a wide horizon, openness to other people's experience.
Venus here is sextile Uranus at 21°53′ Aquarius, orb 1°17′. Tradition links Venus with Uranus to a taste for the unusual in style and aesthetics. The article on the sextile covers how the aspect is read in general.
Three bodies in Aquarius in the 11th house
Neptune (7°00′ Aquarius), the Moon (13°02′ Aquarius) and Uranus (21°53′ Aquarius) are in the 11th house. Uranus and Neptune spend years in Aquarius, so the signs alone say nothing personal. What makes them personal is the house and the Moon sitting between them.
The 11th house classically covers groups, friends, communities and the wider circle a person speaks to. The Moon is trine Saturn (orb 2°46′) and sextile Pluto (orb 2°30′). Both aspects are harmonious, and tradition reads them as support and steadiness for the lunar, emotional side of the chart.
