Kamala Harris was born at a full Moon: the Sun and Moon stand on almost the same degree of opposite signs. The chart also has the North Node right on the Ascendant and a tight group of planets in Virgo in the 4th house.

What is known and what is not

Harris was born on October 20, 1964, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Oakland, Alameda County, California. In August 2020 Bay Area News Group, the publisher of The Mercury News, posted a certified copy of her birth certificate issued by the Alameda County Clerk-Recorder. The hour field reads 9:28 p.m.

A document with the birth time earns the highest Rodden rating, AA. We cast the chart for 9:28 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (UTC−7): in 1964 California kept daylight saving time until late October.

In 2020 the family of the doctor who delivered her told KTVU that the birth was on October 24. That is a recollection, not a record. The certificate gives October 20 and was signed on October 23, before the 24th, so the certificate date stays as the basis of the chart.

A full Moon across Libra and Aries

The Sun at 27°48′ Libra in the 5th house faces the Moon at 27°39′ Aries in the 11th, orb 0°09′. An opposition this exact means Harris was born at the moment of the full Moon. Astrologers read a full Moon birth as a life between two poles: Libra pulls toward agreement and a balance between sides, Aries toward direct action. The 5th house stands for self-expression, the 11th for groups and allies.

Saturn at 28°27′ Aquarius in the 9th house links this opposition. It is trine the Sun (orb 0°39′) and sextile the Moon (orb 0°48′), both orbs under a degree. Tradition reads an opposition supported this way as manageable tension, and here the support comes from Saturn, the planet of rules and responsibility, in the house of law and convictions. The article on the opposition explains how the 180° angle itself works.

The North Node on the Ascendant

The Ascendant is at 24°26′ Gemini, and the North Node is at 24°30′ Gemini, only a few minutes of arc further on, in the 1st house. Astrologers link a North Node on the Ascendant with a sense that the direction of life is bound up with the way a person presents themselves. Gemini rising traditionally describes attention to words and the exchange of information.

Virgo in the 4th house

The 4th house holds a group in the middle of Virgo: Uranus at 13°15′ Virgo, Pluto at 15°27′ Virgo and Venus at 17°53′ Virgo. The Uranus-Pluto conjunction (orb 2°11′) is shared by everyone born in the mid-1960s and gains personal weight from its house. The 4th house describes family, roots and the ground underfoot.

Facing this group is Chiron at 14°42′ Pisces in the 10th house. The opposition of Pluto and Chiron has an orb of 0°44′. The 10th house stands for career and public role, so the 4th-10th axis is under strain here. Venus is also sextile Neptune at 16°50′ Scorpio, orb 1°03′, a soft aspect tradition links with a fine sense of other people's mood.

Mars in Leo

Mars at 21°17′ Leo in the 3rd house is square Jupiter at 24°00′ Taurus in the 12th, orb 2°42′. The 3rd house covers speech, learning and the immediate circle. Tradition links a Mars-Jupiter square with a large reserve of energy and a tendency to take on more than seems possible. The principles of this angle are covered in the article on the square.
